These are cheap as it is public transport. It is advisable to book the train tickets well in advance as the sleeper classes of the train gets filled much before. To return to your country directly from Chiang Mai take any international flight or if you wish to get exceptional air service providers like Lufthansa and others then you will have to return to Bangkok first.
